God, discipline and Trauma ( how do these work together?)

Life is a voyage teeming with peaks and valleys, akin to a roller coaster ride. What distinguishes individuals is how they react to life’s trials.

Traumatic experiences can disrupt our body’s inner balance, leaving us vulnerable to intense emotions like anger, fear, and sadness.

God teaches us that while we can’t always control external events, we can control our reactions to them. By developing discipline over our emotional responses, we can navigate the turbulent waters of trauma recovery more effectively.

Trauma often leaves deep emotional scars that can take years, or even a lifetime, to heal. God doesn’t promise to erase these scars, but it does offer a path to building resilience in the face of adversity.

Most of us can say that the things we went through were not fair or just. And I can safely say that my reaction to extreme abuse was extreme in in itself. Had you asked me then, I would’ve scoffed at the idea the mastery over my emotions was vital to my recovery. After all, why was it my responsibility when I didn’t do the damage. It felt like asking me to pay for the damage to my car after someone else hit me.

But this is not an accident with a responsible driver carrying insurance. This is a drunk driver involved in a hit and run > this is unfairness at its very

core. But we still have to get back up. We still have to take our vehicle into the shop, rehab our body, get back behind the wheel …even if we are scared. Even if we’d rather walk for the rest of our lives instead of drinking again.

You get the point.

Remember, friends, we can’t control everything that happens to us, but we can control how we react and grow from it. Stay strong and keep moving forward.
