Tracy Lawrence sings a song that I understand well. A woman that could not attach but maybe wanted to. His lyrics talk about the draw to her:
You’re lyin’ with me in Atanta
It’s such a beautiful lie
You play me like a piano
I always let you get by
I know I’ll go through hell, girl
When you find someone else
But right now I’m in heaven
And I can’t help myselfMy little Texas tornado
Blowin’ me away again
I swore it wouldn’t happen again
But I looked at you and then
I’m like a tumbleweed
In a wild west Texas wind
You’re blowin’ me away
Again
It’s a beautiful song but this dance between a man and a woman is not something we should consider. I mean that. I was single for a long time after a very destructive 17 year marriage. After my abusive childhood and the ending of that marriage, I trusted no one. I wanted no love. I did, however, want to date. That’s the woman in this song. No love in, no love out.
Have any of you found yourself in this position? It seems rather romantic that a man would want to see you knowing that you will not commit. He must really be into you. Or he himself isn’t longing for commitment either.
It is the age old adage of hide and seek. The problem is — when you’re found you want to hide again. It is honestly a miserable ending ever time. I know. I lived it for years.
So, the next time I hear this song playing, I will remind myself that I found and married a man who could commit to me and I could commit to him.
That is what love does.
